Mary & Charles Jones
Recording at Fingringhoe c1996
In 1975 The Society started the Monumental job of recording the inscriptions on the headstones in the Churchyards, Cemeteries & Burial Grounds in Essex as well as the plaques in the Churches and Chapels.
The very first location recorded was the Burial Ground for St Michaels Church at Manningtree where recording began on 25 January 1975.
Over the years the Society has recorded at 100's of locations across Essex with many more locations still to be recorded.
The project was initially led by our Chairman, John Rayment. The full list of people who have led the project is:-
