The History of the Essex Society for Family History

Part 5 - The 2010's

Change was in the air in 2013. After 13 years we were asked to move out of our room on the ground floor of the Essex Record Office. Photos of the Research Room taken in April can be seen here. Photos taken during our Saturday meeting day in May can be seen here. The old room closed on Thursday 22 August. The move into an area of the Public Search Room on the 1st floor took place on the 27-30 August. Our new Research Centre opened for business on Wednesday 4 September. 2014 saw the launch of a brand new Society Website after much planning and hard work for over a year.

Later in 2014 the Society hosted a 3 day Family History Conference. This was held 29-31 August at the Holiday Inn in Basildon. It was part of a series of events that year to mark the 40th anniversary of the Federation of Family History Societies. It was also used to commemorate the 40th anniversary of our Society.

January 2015 saw the Chelmsford meetings move from their home of 14 years at the Essex Record Office to a new home at the Galleywood Heritage Centre.

In September 2015 the Chelmsford Computer Group closed after 22 years.
