The Society has a rapidly expanding library covering most aspects of family history.

CENSUS INDICES - We hold microfiche copies of indexes to a number of the nineteenth century censuses districts not only in Essex but also in other parts of the UK for years:
OTHER MICROFICHE - Sets of microfiche are held covering the GRO Birth, Marriage, Death and Miscellaneous indexes 1837-1998; a full set of Boyd's Marriage Index: and a full set of the 1992 version of the International Genealogical Index (IGI) We also have microfiche copies of many of the Memorial Inscriptions found in many of the Essex churchyards. In addition to these main items several smaller sets of fiche are available.
BOOKS - Our books are available for reference when the Research Centre is open. Included in our library are book copies of the Memorial Inscriptions found in many of the Essex churchyards.

The more valuable or scarce items are lodged at the Library of the Essex University, Colchester. Members of the Society can obtain a reader's ticket to this library by writing to the University Librarian quoting their Essex Society membership number.
MAGAZINES - We exchange copies of our magazine "The Essex Family Historian" with those published by other Federated Societies, both in the UK and overseas. Copies of magazines published by these other Societies are available in our library at Chelmsford
